Buddhism

Then, in front of the spiritual madness of the West:

Dalaïmania .... Bouddhamania or...?

Jeboud.gif ( 16697 bytes)It is certain that the West needs spiritual (not to confuse especially nor to mix with religiosity) in the sense where spiritual mean awareness of the Global nature of every human being, including soul, body, spirit as well as that of the interdependence of these, by means of the knowledge of the mechanisms of the mental. It is for it that approaching the Buddhism, it is major to make this approach according to very precise artillery and especially according to progressive and solid process because structured. The three Confidences, the four Noble essential Propositions, the five Aggregates, six Paramitas, Octuple Sentier, the ten major Rules, the ten Links, twelve Links and many other essential bases should be perfectly likened and integrated into the sub-and the unconscious so that any successive contribution can live harmoniously with what was ingested previously, without creating a posteriori imbalance and disturbance harmful to the evolution of the spirit.

It is honestly necessary to recognize that the West, having done sweet eyes in " swamis " and in hindouisante wave in the 50s, threw itself in lost body, mu by a run-up any " sixtie'th ", in the Ocean of " Peace and Love ", always in excellently oriental connotation, even if it means contracting there a " gourouïte " of the most pointed. This, by forgetting, with an almost childish inconstancy, moderation and the anti-extremism, angular stones of the Buddhism in its tradition of the Middle Path such as it was revealed to him by even Tibetan and Sinhalese, Thai, Burmese, Vietnamese, Korean, Japanese great masters... So much that one was able to see hatching a multiplicity of sectarian small groups or movements diversifying in a range enriched by doctrines, going from the serenity the most completed in the mystico-paranoiac frenzy or gasifying apocalyptico-.

That in more, abandoning by no means its " Cartesianism to dissected", the West is recreating, with the different currents of the Buddhist thought, the same cleavages (anti..?) monk, who undermined gradually the coherence and the cohesion of its spiritual unity. In East, this cleavage exists in a less tangible way, both living in an apparently respected, respectable and respectful Sangha ( monastic community) (this as long as it not there no intervention of the power as ferment of rivalry - what exists within the framework of the religions of states - or of the power conferred by the Succession).

It would be to suggest that the West, inevitably marked that it is by his past, watches not to repeat by some vague skid of the "brains" in a just and praiseworthy spiritual pursuit, even plans which inferred him it, throughout the religious history, in painful, outmoded, but long-lived schism. The underlying rivalities between " fundamentalist chapels " ask only in for to awaken often inconveniently.

By too much hastened in the collection of spiritual, dazzled change that it is by the visual and sound chatoyance of certain rites and practices, the West does not even notice as it falls again, head lowered, the major part of the cases into the rehearsal of analogues plans of dependence towards the transmitter of the "truth" and  in the rites relative to it; plans that he blamed previously to his own convent schools that he wants or has just left; it would not be finally a little Charybdis or Scylla...?

One of the Tibetan great masters warned the West against the following fact: to show the authentic road nobody entices; on the other hand, to highlight or to exaggerate a little , to try to manipulate crowds make rush [which ask only be (imaginarily) taken care spiritually, this in total contradiction with the Buddhist educations]. The laziness and the impatience make good householdand some " small smart " wait only for the occasion supplied by the " spiritual fashion " to put to sleep the attentiveness of people in a society where the " All and instantanously ", just like the " God Money ", reigns in incontested boss.

Even in a sector as that of the spiritual, the difference among authentic one "voluntary help", sometimes missionary and the attraction of the "business" is often difficult to discern. It is exactly, in this spiritual crenel, that the impatient and often inconsistent demand of the West supplies to masters less compassionnels and discernants, " little feet gurus " of movements with more or less sectarian tendency, the occasion to fill pockets, taking advantage of the confusion of disillusioned or unbalanced consciousnesses. This is valid for any forms of spiritualities, as western as oriental. This same boss had very well understood the problem of the incoherence of the West:

Boudha37. GIF ( 22598 bytes)" I came to see the monks, my fellow countrymen and the coreligionists Buddhists and teach them the Tibetan Buddhism. Now, you, dear western friends, you are neither my fellow countrymen, nor my coreligionists! So, I may not teach you the Tibetan Buddhism... On the other hand, the words of the Buddha concern to you all and it is the only education that I can authentically distribute you. "

It is imperative that, in starts épidermiques or paroxystic shaking the " méga-souk of spiritual business " or " fawning - shop window of a spiritual fast food restaurant " of this transition towards the IIIè millennium, the Buddhism does not become a "fashionable" spirituality or a " exotic spiritual consumable tourism " and\or consumable, because of the tendency to make trapped by a media " diffusion everywhere "  to the Westerner; of the fact as well, as the Buddhism could, sometimes, represent a possible possibility of "refuge" or spiritual pseudo-coverage for those that rebel momentarily or definitively against a too heavy and thinking religious hierarchical tradition or that wish to be converted to a new religion.

Finally, because offering too easily and often, for some, a shape of evasion in a flight(leak) of its own daily reality to succeed in an attempt of coverage, not by itself, but by a "spiritual adviser", similar to those that prospered at the time of Bossuet; coverage subjected to all the inherent potentialities of alienation which snap finger too often totally at the respect for the integrity and for the responsibility of the individual.

The Buddhism is a sound school of the awareness of the Being and its responsibility, its application and its understanding. It is at present the only spirituality which can put an end to two millenniums " of spiritual horizontal assistanat " by conferring to the Man his " responsible verticality ".

It is necessary that the West, possessing a collective unconscious different from that oriental, sub-tightening(sub-stretching out) this philosophy, unconscious for which one can ask neither to the one nor to other one to transmuer instead of its alter or of its ego, on the field as by delight, does not fall in this bait of the immediate pseudo-imitativo-substitution. If this phenomenon of osmosis of Unconscious should be made, it(he) will be made; but it will take time, a lot of time; the important is, without distorting and veiling its appropriate nature, without being allowed overflow by unverifiable streams or dérapants by mysticism " over-well intentionned ", of authentically, essentially and serenely to participate in this progress in the WAY, that of our daily life.

vén. Shinjin Robert Brandt-Diény insist to assert with serene one and rigorous fierceness that:

The Buddhism can not and should on no account be for and in the West
A new religion with character proselyte and imaginarily theist,
That one is not mistaken there.

It is and stays a religious tradition appropriate for the East.
On the other hand, in West, it shows to be a remarkable philosophic methodology
For a better awareness of its own spiritual roots

Concerning Vajrayâna, at present , in West the shape the most diffused and the most appreciated by the Buddhism supported that it is by in a certain Dalaïmania (term found in the Current events of the religions 4/99), vén. Shinjin Robert Brandt-Diény is anxious to underline resolutely printed by serenity that this one, by means of its various traditions, represents only one among the multiple means of entry in the Wisdom, this in the same way as the Therâvada or the Mahâyâna, integral part of which it is nevertheless as likes to assert it, even recently, the Dalai Lama. On its subject, it is to clarify that it is considered as Avalokiteshvara ( Chenrézigs's ) reincarnation which is a bodhisattava and that Panchen-Lama (or Tachi-Lama) is, on the other hand him, the reincarnation of a bouddha, in the occurence Amitâbha (the bouddha of the infinite light).

The Dalai Lama, contrary to a prejudice and strongly spread, can be on no account likened to the "pope" of the Buddhism, quite taken on an aura and mediatized that he is with the West by his Nobel of the peace 1989, because he represents only a small percentage of the totality of the followers " native Buddhists " and that he is not recognized as spiritual "leader" among the Sri Lancan, Thai, Burmese, Cambodian, Laotian théravâdins, the Chinese Pure mâhayânists Zen  and Earth, Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese.

In spite of all the respect and the respect which are due to the praiseworthy awareness campaign in an ethno-religio-cuturel " genocide " and in himself as man, he is above all the politico-religious spokesman of a country confronted with painful problems with his Chinese neighbour and can not take advantage "to represent" to him only the Buddhism in his total. The book " Bouddhisme et Occident " of Lionel Obadia analyzes very well this phenomenon. Then, the numerous testimonies of the exactions of the Chinese, lasting authorities and after the Cultural revolution, against the Chinese people, himself, as for example in famous Lao Gaï denounced by Harry Wu, demonstrate that the Tibetan are not the only ones to suffer from these violations of the most elementary human rights, it in the encontre as well of eminent intellectuals and scientists as in that of the poor orphans and new - born...

There are many Buddhist monks, in the other countries which are persecuted, tortured, murdered, without that one mixs for all that, in a moving and spontaneous confusion,  the politics and the monk, for lack of spiritual. It(he) is imperative to dissociate honestly, what is within the competence of the politicsand what is within the competence of the religion, all the more when this one refers to the Buddhism, seen that this one wanted, from the beginning, fundamentally apolitical. (If persons wonder then to see on various pages of the site of the illustrations, the texts and Tibetan rites, that they do not go to think a single moment that we do it on behalf of or under the cover of a auto-justifying hypocrisy or no-guilty. No, such is not our intention.
Our first task is to supply eclectic information to the Internet users, but with all the rigour required in front of mixtures "fanatics", where from these clarifiantes precision in the support.)

It is also necessary to differentiate within this said " Tibetan Buddhism ", on one hand, Basic educations  common to three vehicles and on the other hand "magic" practices, (privilege of a Lamaism) practices favored by a convenient context, namely religion Bön and the inheritance of the Hinduism, preexisting before the arrival to the Tibet of a late Buddhism, it is going to say itself it because 1 ' 000 years after the death of the Buddha. It is notorious that the West, however soaked it is still of a fairly long-lived Christianity, made the best reception in these " missionaires Vajrayâna " of the Buddhism, off-loaded from 1960, further to the invasion of the Tibet in 1959 or come on invitation, quite as were him also moreover théravâdins monks and Zen of good name.

These Practices, known under the term of " skillful means and salvifiques ", reserved for persons having acquired the levels of consciousness, without any municipality measures with those of a profane Westerner, are susceptible, frequently , to perturb the individual and collective unconscious of the one that " enjoys out of curiosity trying "; it exactly according to a spiritualisante " haste ", harmful to the correct understanding of their particular essence.

However, the West looks for, with a badly contained madness, the "magic" side of Tantrisme, deprived, made feel guilty, that it was by sacrosanct western ecclesiastical traditions, to want to reach the Knowledge. But, it swims in the most perfect ignorance that is to say Tantrisme, does not concern only the sexuality (as it is too often tarnished), but a set of practices maturely elaborated and seriously passed on by generation in generation, practices allowing to give concrete expression to the interrelation between the various plans (body, soul, spirit) and the cosmic energies. The first, common to all the schools, is to practise an aware breath.

vén. Shinjin Robert Brandt-Diény noticed that an increasing number of persons is enticed by the brilliance diffuser and the aspect, seducing because mysterious, " practices and initiations " of the Buddhism Vajrayâna and Tibetan Lamaism; aspect offering, in what he is said about it, the possibility of reaching more quickly " Nirvâna " than Théravâda and what is more simple Mahâyâna.

One could believe that this "vehicle" is convenient better for a society in search of a " spiritual fast food restaurant ", fascinated than she is by this attractive side of " Buddha high rise ". These sights are erroneous, among so many others than our western society " speedée and compétitionnée " in extravagance likes to build and "to convey" with all the illusions and the inherent disappointments. vén. Shinjin Robert Brandt-Diény is anxious to distance itself from any conceptions, inventions and hasty deductions. He insists also on the importance and the quiet necessity of the factors, the patience and the length time whatever Buddhist approach it is.

Finally, through all these successful oral or written calls regularly, marks of an often very authentic unmistakable craze, vén. Shinjin Robert Brandt-Diény arrived there at the conclusion that they were revealing of a sociocultural phenomenon, consisting mainly of a process reactiv-excuse very attractive, settling(arising) so there against with regard to the rigorism of a morality " guilty-self-justifyed ", the process ensuing from a general illness to direct it to an assuaging and soothing exoticism.

It is true that more and more persons are subjected by the clichés - concepts, stemming from the fascination that practice the Tibet, Ladakh, Zanskhar, Bouthan, Nepal and Mongolia, among the other Asian parts of the country...  And quite filled with spiritual disorientation. But this subjugation keeps pace, too often regrettably , with a profound misunderstanding of this spiritual, exalting world because new or the opposite, with the numerous a priori ensuing there.

It seems that at first, already, there would be an error of appreciation as for the sacrifices of any orders which requires any spiritual road. Who says fascination excessive pursuit implies flood. In fact, it would seem that many persons burn, in any innocent sincerity and méconnaissante, the stages, already wanting to admire the Buddhist panorama of the 13th floor while the cage of the stair is not even in the process of being built.

It seems compassionnel and sensible to warn them before they waste away themselves in the mirages of them mental, blinded that they are by brilliant beauty of the spiritual realm (cf. S.Peck) little just like phalènes enticed by the source of light of lamps to which they burn.

vén. Shinjin Robert Brandt-Diény insist to clarify, quite particularly, that all the divisions, posterior than the education of living on the Buddha, go even against the Spirit reuniting of the Buddhism in the sense where they arouse a temptation of ascendancy and hegemonism based on a personal interpretation of such or such no doctrine of the Education of the Buddha. They create the Duality in which the Intolerance can there give itself to heart enjoyment and one even sees here and there, in different ramifications pseudo-and Buddhist, blossoming again perpetual and horrible maxims, some: " Outside... No possible safety;  without tantrisme, no Awakening...! ".
